Springfield, IL
Introduction | Attractions and Activities | Travel Basics
Springfield, the state capital of Illinois, prides itself on its history--a history that is undoubtedly most distinguished for being the hometown and resting-place of former President Abraham Lincoln. It is also the place where the sixteenth president first practiced law and launched his political career. Accordingly, most of the tourist sites in the city revolve around Lincoln's presence there, including the Lincoln family home, Lincoln' tomb, his original law offices, and the Old Court House where Lincoln tried dozens of cases before the Supreme Court. In addition to these historical sights, Springfield offers visitors a variety of recreational opportunities such as hiking, biking, and golfing. |
